Hone and Mana - become a leader with real mana...

Hone and Mana- become a leader with real mana...

Please view: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6O13SpVjePY

Well that was the easy part Hone Harawira. You have done all the talking, the big-mouthing and the audacious. You are no longer a Maori Party MP for the North - Te Tai Tokerau, but leader of the Mana Party. You now claim to be the representative of the poor and disadvantaged, Maori or Pakeha. Well there are just a few months to the general elections.  You took a margin of thousands and reduced it to hundreds. You now have real opposition in the form of Labour's Kelvin Davis, and you will be out of a job if you lose to him in November. If you win and win well, you could be joined by some compadres in the House of Representatives. You could also be a catalyst for change in government. Phil Goff said he won't work with you in a coalition, but if Goff found he could become prime minister,  he'll find some place on the front benches for the leader of Mana with some real mana?

Maori Party faces new rebellion  -  are they dog tucker?

Tamaki Makaurau elders have moved a vote of no confidence in the party's support for the Marine and Coastal Area Bill

Maori Party leaders are facing a rebellion from some of their strongest supporters, over the new Marine and Coastal Area Bill.

Tamaki Makaurau elders have moved a vote of no confidence saying the party's support for the new legislation, in the face of substantial objections is like trampling on the mana of their ancestors.

Spokeswoman, Ngaire Te Hira, says the new bill isn't what people marched the length of the country for back in 2004."This is not just about the Maori party" she told Newstalk ZB, "This is about the bill that has violated against every Maori and every New Zealander."

Meanwhile, the Maori Party's also moving to clarify how it'll handle the complaint against Hone Harawira.

Its disputes and disciplinary committee began proceedings in Wellington this week, but adjourned to allow Mr Harawira the weekend to discuss issues with his electorate.

Committee Chair, Te Orohi Paul, says the disputes committee won't be present at a hui in Te Tai Tokerau, but it's hearing for Mr Harawira will continue early next week.

PM gives Maori Party ultimatum - like it or lump it...

Maori Party given an ultimatum by PM John Key - accept the proposals for a new Foreshore and Seabed Act or the staus quo remains

The Government is moving closer to finalising its plan for replacing the controversial 2004 Foreshore and Seabed Act.

The issue was discussed at Cabinet yesterday.

John Key has laid things on the line for the Maori Party. He says if it does not agree to his proposals to replace the foreshore and seabed act, the 2004 act will stay the same until a later government can find a resolution..

The Prime Minister believes negotiations are nearly complete. He says while in theory he may get approval for the government's plans from other parties, he is insisting he has to have Maori Party support.

There are three conditions for the Maori Party - that the 2004 act is repealed, Maori customary rights are restored and iwi are given the right to go to court or negotiate with the government directly over the foreshore and seabed.

So there Maori Party, like it or lump it - Bwana Key has spoken!

Somebody moved some rocks...

Somebody moved some rocks and something horrible wriggled out from underneath.

Something that has lain dormant for a few years - the souls of the 1980's and the 1990's - something horrible and yellow, just like Rodney Hide's jacket. The stench was unbearable - those rotten New Right policies that nearly disembowelled New Zealand society - that P word! Not methamphetamine but almost as bad for New Zealand and its people.

Privatisation!!! Yes, you may shout!!! But privatisation of the welfare system. The target would be massive reductions in welfare benefits with massive incentives too!

With unemployment at 50,000 and rising just like the 1990's and expected to climb to 90,000 in a year.

Well Johnnie Key, people are often judged by those they associate with. In your case the politically naieve Maori Party and the well discredited ACT Party.

The cracks are showing and National is a one term government...

The cracks are showing, and the National Government has shown it really wants to continue privatising in one form or another, and even extend that to education.

There is no place for private/state partnerships in NZ. These partnerships would be at the expence of the state and the taxpayer. I don't believe the state should subsidise private education. If people want to send their children to private schools they should privately finance them.

John Key is struggling to manage his right wing cabinet members, and those foolish ones outside of cabinet. ACT NZ is a fascist party and is dog-tucker; and the Maori Party is all washed up but doesn't know it! Turiana Turia is standing down next time, and only Pita Sharples has the personal mana to get re-elected; the rest are political deadbeats!

The National Government is a one term government, and it is showing! Many people who voted for National now regret it, and realise they only reacted against what they perceived were nanny state policies of the previous Labour - led administration. They now realise that Labour had been a pretty good government over nine years, and Helen Clark had been one of the great political manager of all time!

Maori Party urged to oppose worker probation bill...

Labour is urging the Maori Party to oppose the 90 Day Employment Probation Bill.

National is planning to pass the bill through Parliament under urgency, before Christmas. The proposed legislation would allow employers with less than 20 staff to dismiss employees without any personal grievance claims.

Labour leader Phil Goff says the Maori Party can do nothing else but oppose the bill and oppose urgency. He says it would be unthinkable for the Maori Party to allow legislation which strips Maori, and other workers, of fundamental rights.

Mr Goff says National never told the public the law change would be a top priority, and gave no warning it would be rammed through under urgency.

However Minister of Labour Kate Wilkinson says the policy was well known before the election.

Harawira cooking with gas now - latest criticisms right on...

Harawira cooking with gas now - latest criticisms right on the mark...

MP Hone Harawira last night pleaded for moves to fix impoverished housing in Northland, contrasting Government inaction with the "middle-class shock" over leaky homes. The Maori Party also said the criticism he received after calling Australian Prime Minister John Howard a "racist bastard" last week might have been right. "Maybe I should have been firing my bullets closer to home". It might, he said, respond to the desperate needs in those homes where there was no bathroom, where a long-drop toilet hid behind a shabby wooden floor, where the wind whistled through paper-thin walls and ill-fitting windows and doors, where there was no heating or hot water cylinder, and where the only tap that worked was a cold one. Of course the Government needed to move heaven and hell to look like they were doing something – ANYTHING to appease home owners burnt by the incompetence of a greedy housing boom that didn’t bother to question building practices, however people in poverty living in sub standard housing has no one bothering to lift a finger. Point well made Mr Harawira.
