The Mighty River Power share float is just a load of unadulterated nonsense. Why would you pay to buy shares in a public company you already part-own as a tax payer and New Zealand citizen? It will most likely be re-nationalised in some form or another by the new left of centre Labour/ Greens government after the 2014 general elections in late 2014. Shareholders need their heads read...

Green's co-leader Russell Norman accused John Key of being the big con-artist. National wasted $100 million dollars on promoting Mighty River Power. Only one in four actually invested in it.

Housing NZ should not be competing against first home-buyers - they should be building new homes...

Housing NZ should be building new houses, rather than out-bidding first home buyers in the Auckland market, Labour says.
Labour's Phil Twyford is criticising state housing provider Housing New Zealand for out-bidding first home buyers in the hot Auckland property market.
People at the auction of a two-bedroom property in west Auckland recently were surprised when a phone bidder representing Housing New Zealand bid strongly to secure the property, the Herald on Sunday reported.
The house, with a CV of $270,000 went under the hammer for $380,000.
"Really in a tight market as we have where first home buyers are desperately struggling to get into the market and are locked out by a dire shortage of affordable housing it is nonsensical for the government to be competing against them and out-bidding them," Mr Twyford, who is Labour's Housing spokesman, told NZ Newswire.
The government should be building affordable homes, he said.
Average house prices in Auckland fell from a record high last month, snapping a three-month advance, as more properties came to market, Barfoot & Thomspon, the city's biggest realtor said on Friday.
The average sale price fell about 0.5 per cent to $643,089, having reached a record $645,928 in March, the firm said. The median price dipped 2.4 per cent to $566,000.

Mike Hesson, Ross Taylor and the Black Caps in conversation and on tour...
As the NZ cricket team, the Black Caps flew out on their return tour to England, I couldn't let the comments of their coach, Mike Hesson, go without comment. Mr Hesson is very happy that one of his critics, former NZ player John Parker, had apologised to him about his comments regarding the Ross Taylor saga. Mr Parker had made some insinuations regarding Mr Hesson's comments after the Ross Taylor captaincy sacking.
It centred around Hesson's claim he had offered Taylor the test captaincy after sacking him from all forms of the game. Ross Taylor had basically accused Hesson of lying. He also intimated he would like an apology from Hesson; but this doesn't appear to have happened. Ross Taylor is, and always been the innocent party in the whole saga.
So this sorry little saga has not yet gone away. Ross Taylor is concentrating on his skills and form as the premier test batsman of the side. Brendan McCullum is certainly a form batsman in the shorter forms of the game, and the new captain. See what he is like on the end of a test series loss in England. The conversation will continue when they return, no doubt!
