NZ First will be toast at next years elections if Winston supports National's GCSB Bill...

If Winston Peters supports John Key's GCSB Bill, he can kiss goodbye to NZ First getting 5% in next years elections. I wouldn't vote for NZ First if he does. The SIS already has the power to SPY on New Zealanders. The GCSB should be merged with the SIS anyway.

Burquas - a controversy in New Zealand in recent times...

The two Kiwi bus drivers who refused to accept passengers on their buses because they wore burquas didn't do anything wrong. If I was a bus driver and had a potential passenger wearing a burqua, hoody with dark glasses or a person with a handkerchief around their face, I would refuse them admittance too until they removed them. As far as Muslims wearing burquas goes, remember the adage, "when in Rome do as the Romans do." NZ is not a Muslim country, but we should remember also that the burqua is a cultural requirement, not the Prophet's. I don't have a problem with head scarves, because some Christian sects still wear them. But I still don't like burquas because they undermine the dignitywomen in some Muslim countries where they are treated as third-class citizens, behind animals which are second class citizens.

Kim Hill has left Morning Report on Radio NZ's program...

I think more than a few folk will miss her considerable presence on the Morning Report segment of Radio NZ’s programming. Her no-nonsense, commanding style of interview delves past the BS, and demands answers to questions which we, the public, are entitled to know, but unable to put to those in positions of authority. (And when we do put questions to those in Authority, our efforts are “rewarded” with fob-offs; bullshit, or ignored entirely.)

Kim is one of the best interviewers we are currently blessed with, with more talent in one finger than a regiment of reporters.

Note: Kim Hill will still have her own segment on Saturday Mornings.

More shocks for Mighty River Power investors…

A sell-off by international investors is likely to be behind the weakness in Mighty River Power’s share price, say analysts.

The power company closed down 3c on $2.34 yesterday – 16c down from its $2.50 issue price and 39c off its opening trading price of $2.73.

The stock hit a low of $2.30 last Friday amid a decline across the New Zealand sharemarket and weakness in the New Zealand dollar.

James Smalley, a director at share-broker Hamilton Hindin Greene, said Contact Energy was also down which could signal selling was being driven by people’s outlook for the electricity sector and a slow reaction to the Labour/Greens plan for regulation. “The market takes a while to digest bad news.”
