Was six years for corruption enough for Phillip Field...

Disgraced former Labour MP and cabinet minister Phillip Field is probably more of a natural National Party member. they are all potentially corrupt! Word is he gave himself that Samoan chiefly title of "Taito". Doesn't warrant it any more the decrepit vagabond. He has been given six years for corruption and deserves every year he serves. He is the first New Zealand member of parliament to be imprisoned for corruption. Well the first to get caught - there could have been more in the late 80's and 90's.

This "helpful" individual did what is culturally common in Samoan society? Don't think so folks! Give our Samoan neighbours and cousins a little more credit than that!

He helped Thai nationals gain help with immigration matters they were not entitled to - in return for tiling work on his "houses" free of charge. Yeah right! A most helpful little rogue.

He brought New Zealand's credibility into disrepute. He was corrupt and deserves imprisonment - was six years enough?

TODAY Deputy Prime Minister Michael Cullen is rejecting claims by National that the controversy surrounding Labour's biggest donor amounts to corruption and suggests National has escaped unscathed from similar criticism because its backers are a mystery. Great story - read on!

Expatriate Owen Glenn has rejected as a joke reports he was offered the role of Transport Minister. He now hopes to become New Zealand's honorary consul in Monaco. Also under scrutiny is Mr Glenn's recent New Year's honour, his previous half a million dollar's worth of donations to Labour, and a $100,000 interest free loan also given to the party.

National MP Maurice Williamson is accusing Labour of corruption and predicts the Glenn controversy will be its downfall, but Dr Cullen says no one knows if National Party funders have been honoured, because no one knows who the party's donors are. He says thanks to National's use of secret trusts, its backers are more anonymous than most of its MPs.

Southland surgeon exploits elderly woman - a scenario under a future National Govt.

A Southland surgeon has been ordered to pay back money he charged an elderly woman for postoperative care following publicly-funded cataract surgery.

Health and Disability Commissioner Ron Paterson has found the unnamed surgeon exploited the patient and failed to comply with ethical standards. He says the surgeon should have made clear the patient was entitled to completely free treatment

As well as refunding her money, Mr Paterson has recommended the surgeon apologise to the woman. He also wants the National Ethics Committee to advice the Minister of Health of issues raised by the current mix of public and private treatment options available for elective surgery.
