The Labour Party is promising to scrap the secondary tax if elected, instead allowing people to pay the correct amount of tax as they earn it.
Labour leader David Cunliffe made the announcement while campaigning at the Otara Market in Manukau this morning.
Secondary tax is paid by those who have more than one job.
Its rate is usually higher than the primary source of income but it often results in a refund at the end of the financial year.
Mr Cunliffe said by abolishing secondary tax it will make it much easier for those in casual work or who have more than one job.
He said even though there is a theoretical wash up at the end of the financial year, the current system is cumbersome and people often pay too much tax in the short ter
